Dr. Nikos Ntoumanis (pronounced "Doumanis") started his employment at the University of Birmingham in 2001 after short spells at the University of Brighton (1998) and Leeds Metropolitan University (1999-2001). He is currently a Reader in Exercise and Sport Psychology. His research interests lie in the area of motivation in physical activity settings (sport, physical education, exercise), and the relationship between anxiety and coping mechanisms in sport.

Dr. Ntoumanis is a BASES Accredited Researcher in Sport and Exercise Psychology and a BPS Chartered Psychologist. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Psychology of Sport and Exercise (official publication of the European Federation of Sport Psychology) and serves on the editorial board of another four sport psychology journals (e.g., Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology). He is also the Chief Assessor for the BPS Qualification in Sport and Exercise Psychology. He has published 1 book, 5 book chapters, and over 90 articles in peer reviewed journals. His research is funded by Research Councils and Charities in the United Kingdom and overseas as well as by the European Union, and he has received awards from various academic organisations.
